Artist, Designer, Maker
Phil Hawn, has been making art for more than 35 years.
A graduate of the Art Institute of Atlanta (AA), Berea College (BA in Ecological Building Design), and Appalachian State University (MS in Appropriate Technology Education), he splits his time between family, art, and volunteering. His career in the arts has been spent working in offset printing, screen printing, television, ad agencies, building exhibits, book illustrations, and as an artist for hire. In his "clean" studio he works on painting, illustration, and graphic design. In his "dirty" studio he works on sculpture, ceramics, and other projects of destruction and mayhem.
Phil's sculptures are works in abstract, using stone, wood, ceramics, plaster, metal, foam, found and recycled objects, or whatever he has at hand. The forms take shape out of images in his mind and find representation through tactile interpretation of what his hands find interesting to touch. When painting his interests lie in the abstraction of nature or objects, or like his sculpture, the images that form in his mind.
Glen-Scott Gallery in Blowing Rock, NC and Minetta Lane Center for Arts and Peace in Hickory, NC formerly displayed his work.
He has participated in the "Boating Party" show in the fall of 2015 and 2016.
Past shows include: "Up Close and Faraway" with Lindsay Barrick, February-April 2012 at the Newton-Conover Auditorium Gallery. Solo show June-August 2013 at the United Arts Council, Hickory NC.
Many of his works are available through http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/phil-hawn.html
